Speaker Bios
Shoni Field is a communications and fundraising consultant by profession, and an advocate for electorate reform by chance. She was a randomly selected member of the BC Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform and went on to become co-chair and media spokesperson for the Citizens' Assembly Alumni and a Director of Fair Voting BC. She has made extensive presentations to community groups, public interest organizations, the general public and official representatives from other jurisdictions about BC-STV and the Citizens' Assembly process. Shoni has a degree in Communications and Political Science from Simon Fraser University.
She was born in Leicester, England, raised on Vancouver Island and resides in Vancouver BC with her husband and two sons.
Bruce Hallsor is the past president of Fair Voting BC, and is a founding member and former Vice-President of Fair Vote Canada. Bruce is a lawyer with Crease Harman & Company, British Columbia's oldest law firm, and is Past-President of the Victoria Bar Association.
Bruce's community activities include serving as a member of the BC-Yukon Council for Scouts Canada, serving as a public board member of the College of Social Workers, and serving on the BC Child Care council. Bruce has been involved in government as a Ministerial and caucus assistant, and has worked as a volunteer, staff person, or legal representative for a number of political parties and campaigns. He is currently a riding president for the BC Liberal Party, and served as co-chair of the BC campaign for the federal Conservative party in 2005-6.
Bruce was born in Quesnel, raised in Terrace, and is now married with two young children in Victoria.
